The problem

Descriptive-answer assessment takes time, but educational judgement needs context and accountability. Schooly explores a workflow that supports teachers without outsourcing their final decision.

My role

Product concept and prototype development. The initial scope is Classes 6–8, with English answers in Science and Social Science.

Approach

A teacher provides a question, model answer, and maximum marks. A scanned PDF per student goes through OCR; the teacher corrects low-confidence extraction. AI then suggests marks with explanations, and the teacher approves every final mark.

Prototype & pilot target

This is a prototype, not a production deployment. Reducing marking time by at least 50% is a pilot objective to validate, not a measured achievement.

Constraints

Extraction errors can propagate into assessment. The workflow therefore separates text correction, mark suggestions, and final approval. No student data, grading-accuracy claims, school identities, or public demo are included.
